Actually thinking of picking up a IV now - they're still around $300 used which is crazy but sort of awesome. Cheers - this was an excellent write-up hitting all the points I've related to new GR users. I'm going to buy Ricoh GRD IV, because Ricoh GR (V) is too expensive for me.

I have got one question: did you make any printouts from photos taken as RAW files (and converted in postprocessing to b&w) in 300DPI? What about quality? Which picture this small sensor gives on the edges of photo?

Maybe it's strange, but I like printouts (especially B&W) more than watching pictures on computer screen. Yup, I don't have a dedicated monitor like Eizo or NEC.

Thanks for the answer, thanks for your site.

Greetings

MichaelAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495751177910315025.post-32124907334071006162015-08-31T01:36:53.585-07:002015-08-31T01:36:53.585-07:00Hey wonderful review! However, the GR-D IV is with me 24/7, and due to its speed and size, I tend to grab for it first when I need to take a quick shot. It comes down to which camera you grab for first when you need to shoot, and I have to say the GR-D IV is my go-to camera still...Bigheadtacohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07287168567380301421noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495751177910315025.post-87201984838729636382013-12-02T15:46:03.550-08:002013-12-02T15:46:03.550-08:00I came across you blog looking for images of a GR1...I came across you blog looking for images of a GR1 ... Time ago I had a GR IV, I sold it cause the poor low ISO performance (night street shooting) ... well, not poor, but I guess comparing with actual cameras it is not the best. However, since I sold it I was feeling I toke the wrong decission, I reviwed my work with it in the streets ... it was great (at least for me, and that is what matters), so today I pull the trigger and got anotherone on ebay for under $300.
Just in case anyone else comes across this blogpost trying to decide to buy it or not ... I totally back-up your words, one by one. Is a grat camera to carry with you at every moment, even when you are sitting in the couch. The images look so good that since I sold it I tryed to get the same colors or B&W with other cameras and yeah, i got something I like ... but is not the same at all. So buy it and keep it, this camera is a jewel.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495751177910315025.post-2866954263852319012013-12-02T05:37:51.038-08:002013-12-02T05:37:51.038-08:00Hi there. However, there are some things the older model can do better, like AF, macro, and depth of field. If the price difference is $150, I think the GR is the better option. For many, the price difference is more like $400-500, so the decision is clearer depending on what your photographic needs are. I have both the GR-D IV and GR as personal cameras (the new GR Limited Edition) so I guess I don't have to choose. I know, I'm spoiled...Bigheadtacohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07287168567380301421noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495751177910315025.post-68580820512216072702013-11-30T23:31:51.967-08:002013-11-30T23:31:51.967-08:00Great review! Just one question, if you could only afford one (either GRD iv or new GR) and the price difference between the two was only $150, which would you opt for? Thanks! I know the quality of these images will blow away my GRD IV, but guess what? I rarely shoot with it, unless its a paid job. For shooting enjoyment, especially for the the street, you want small, descreet, and quick. The GR D IV is a pleasure for street shooting. It's not always about ultimate image quality. It's about equipment that induces you to want to shoot. The GR does that, which will in turn create awesome images!!
Bigheadtacohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07287168567380301421noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495751177910315025.post-57180726944350734022013-07-23T19:34:42.240-07:002013-07-23T19:34:42.240-07:00Hi Tom,

If you're coming from a 1/1.7" sensor (S100, LX-5, etc.) then you will be pleased. It's perfect for the street because of the depth of field you gain from this size of sensor, and the macro ability is insane. I like it so much that it is my main carry-everywhere camera. If you have any further questions, let me know. Happy shooting!

I forgot to mention in my review too, but the battery for the GR-D IV is very common too. The Panasonic LX series and FX series uses the same battery.
