The Leica Q isn't bad, but I would still recommend shooting RAW, especially with Leica. Fujifilm's JPEGs are pretty good though, but you can apply JPEG film profiles in post anyway, so again, shoot RAW!Bigheadtacohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07287168567380301421noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495751177910315025.post-2691794217723067552016-11-13T14:55:43.065-08:002016-11-13T14:55:43.065-08:00Hi Francois,

Yes the Eye-fi option is great, although I personally feel that a wifi interface for the camera would be better. Not only can you transfer images across to any device wirelessly, but you can also communicate with the camera and make adjustments, such as time, date, time zone, firmware updates, etc. Shooting digital RAW is nice, and since your entire eco-system is Leica, it's easy for you to get a sense of the centre-weighted average metering. I'm use to this metering pattern, and my exposures were dead on most of the time. I do hope Leica makes a cheaper version of the MD though, to encourage Leica film shooters into the digital realm. The price is cost prohibitive for most, and perhaps it may take a third party company like Cosina (Bessa/Voigtlander) to create an M-mount rangefinder digital camera without an LCD screen. Thanks for your Flick'R link. Your images definitely have that Leica look.

Best regards,

Take
Bigheadtacohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07287168567380301421noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495751177910315025.post-80781182488558895252016-10-09T04:01:24.438-07:002016-10-09T04:01:24.438-07:00Hey Francois,

This prevents the wifi to be open all the time, as It will only start trying to sync when I set some of the pics as protected.
As I wont be able to do so with MD... are you experiencing any problems with battery? How does it perform
Thanks for your help!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15489250503820789170noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495751177910315025.post-16068307279183331652016-07-23T09:27:01.185-07:002016-07-23T09:27:01.185-07:00Great review! Im a huge leica film fan and always will be but for digital im obsessed with fuji. I think if leica can build digital bodies with upgradable inner parts then i would probably invest in one of their cameras.

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02620883555762039932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495751177910315025.post-28700990728970931592016-07-22T15:02:49.437-07:002016-07-22T15:02:49.437-07:00Last but not least....Raw is magic....with raw it ...Last but not least....Raw is magic....with raw it is very hard to miss an exposure....so why chim?
but before Lightroom mobile, RAW was a pain....In autumn, the IPad IOS photo app will deal with native raw....but you can try allready....This is the second revolution of digital photography.....Raw anywhere....and I am not surprise that the MD wich is complimentary to the mobile raw process...is just out now.
If you get my point, you will realize why the MD is made for.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05343683451542988439noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495751177910315025.post-48768699363073538342016-07-22T14:55:41.758-07:002016-07-22T14:55:41.758-07:00I love your review and your smile.
I talk on your ...I love your review and your smile.
I talk on your youtube video about eye-fi pro card in the MD. I am using my MD with it, not to check the correct image exposure but to develop the raw, when I want , with my ipad and apperture mobile.
an electronic RONDINAX.
The MD is my 12 leica...and far my preffered with the M2 wich is very similare.
No Menu, No Button, No jpg....a shape wich could have been design 60 years ago and will keep his value.
I dont say the MD is emulating the film...not at all...the MD is just the essence of digital photography....a digital sensor with uge f stop latitude.
Without all theses button, menue, preview and histogram ( wich is build from the jpg !!!!) you stay imerged in the action.....and people around you forget this unobstructive black solide non electronic box.
Then lying in your bath or your bed....just put off/on your M and your raw will wifi go to your ipad at 30s/picture.....
The experience of using apperture mobile....developping with your finger, is very manual, unique and even if there is less option than with an imac 27 in....it is 20 time better....
OK you can do it with theM240 or M262.... but what the use of all this buttons and menu, histogram and preview for ? A serious camera is to take picture....not to create jpg
We don't need all this menu.
I deeply recommand everybody not to look at the MD as a snobish tool or a film emulating camera....but as a new way of dealing with digital photography: a simple tool with appart ( ipad) a complex up to date electronic and screen for developing anywhere. No compromise in both way...
I remenber my M9 and his funny useless screen....
I remenber my two M240 and his useless liveview and modes ( exposure )....
Leica give us finally something wich is very very modern in a sens.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/francoiskarm/
Francois karm

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05343683451542988439noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495751177910315025.post-22309288339046739672016-07-18T15:44:18.402-07:002016-07-18T15:44:18.402-07:00Take, I think you took the paint suggestion which...Take, I think you took the paint suggestion which was made in jest too seriously. I stand by my comments. Of course most reviews are the reviewers opinion which I respect including yours for sure! I really do not care if any camera manufacturer cannot survive in a competitive society including Leica. To state the lack of LCD will make on a better photographer is a strech in my opinion with which some will disagree I'm certain. I think I am a somewhat better photo taker because of technology in the camera industry today. Just as I am more informed and render better decisions due to computers / internet etc. I do not want to return to the world of 35 or 40 years ago and have no desire to pay more for cameras with less features such as Leica. When Leica was a leader some years ago i sure they did not share their profits with any of the photo enthusiasts at that time. Too insinuate that in some way they are owed support now with their grossly overpriced products is absurd.Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13368144896685011052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495751177910315025.post-6239038121710978882016-07-18T14:46:57.180-07:002016-07-18T14:46:57.180-07:00Hey Martin,
I appreciate your support from my ea...Hey Martin,

I appreciate your support from my early days. As for black paint on the back of a camera, I would say almost every single camera needs the screen to access basic features. Yes some brands also have an EVF to access menu items, but many cameras (Leica M's, most DSLRs) need the menu to change even very basic features like ISO, image size, file type.

As for having a 'philosophical discussion of photography' I've always given my opinion beyond just a straight camera review. If that's all you're looking for, there are plenty of websites that do that. I often share my views on the photo industry in general, my shooting philosophy, work flow, etc. Every reviewer is subjective and shows some sort of bias, even if they pretend they don't.

Leica is a brand I have much respect for, but I equally enjoy Fujifilm, Ricoh, Apple, etc. I think something most people don't understand is that Leica is a very tiny company. Canon has more managers than Leica has total employees worldwide. If Leica and Canon would make the exact same camera or lens, Leica's will automatically be 3 to 4 times more expensive. It's no different than if Toyota and McLaren built the exact same care, you'd get the same result. The bigger company through mass production and a superior distribution system will produce a cheaper and often equal quality product. Canon probably sells more cameras in 1 year than what Leica has sold in the past 20 years. The only chance that a smaller niche brand can survive against a huge company is by selling and marketing the product as luxury. There are many things that make Leica products unique and quality, but it's definitely nowhere close to the price-to-preformance value you will get out of most Japanese camera manufacturers.

Perhaps I should write an entire article about this issue as I have much to say about it. I do appreciate you expressing your opinion. I will still produce straight forward reviews but I'll always include my own personal thoughts and philosophy as I've always done. That's what makes my reviews my own.

Thanks for visiting

BHT

Bigheadtacohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07287168567380301421noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8495751177910315025.post-40356231538123471632016-07-18T11:50:07.116-07:002016-07-18T11:50:07.116-07:00In my opinion a bunch of clap trap. Perhaps there may be just too much money in this world when it can be justified spending thousands more for less and the primary reason in this case being - it prevents chimping after making photos. How about a piece of tape on the LCD or a permenant fix of black paint for less than pennies. But on Leica - my goodness - heresy! What changes the emphasis of the camera reviewers who seem to orient toward a philosophical dicaussion of photography versus a review of cameras and associated gear. I detect this in Big Head Taco of late which I have followed since its beginnings - I so much enjoyed your site when it was simply reviews and use of the equipment in your various travels.
