Real Life Munster's Home as Your Neighbour?

I was riding through a heritage home area in Vancouver (Commercial Drive and Hastings) and was appreciating the 100 year old homes. The above home is very typical of this area: beautifully and tastefully restored.  I even like the original brick/stone street surface (although it's not fun riding over).

Another example in the same neighbourhood, below. See the beautifully restored home on the left? Now look over to the ready-to-be-condemned-home on the right. It's almost as if it's made to look bad on purpose, like for a movie or something.  If this isn't a joke, imagine this was your neighbour? Man oh man!! I wouldn't even know what to say.......

Before taking this picture, I had to wait for a group of high school kids to move, as they too were looking at the Munster home, pointing, laughing, in shock, and taking pictures......

  1. What planet are you from? I live across the street from the "Munster Home" as you call it, and it's not restored, it happens to be a fairly new building. I have never once seen anyone pointing and laughing as there are several more just like it around the east end and the people who live here are not idiots. It is a multi-family dwelling designed to look like a heritage home in order to fit in with the original look and feel of the neighbourhood and blend in with the remaining heritage homes. It's basically a heritage styled apartment building.

  2. I'm not sure if you're looking at the right picture, as I have two pictures posted. It's the picture below, and I show two houses, and I'm referring to the house to the right, with all the front facing windows broken and boarded up? Referring to the first picture posted, I commented how beautiful it looked.....

  3. I too spent most of my life in East Van. I came to Canada in 70's as a child from Japan, and up until I got married, I always lived and worked in East Vancouver.....
